Good Hope Bay extends from about mile 118 uplake to mile 130. It is wide and rimmed with broken rock, the result of the Chinle formation that occupies most of its shoreline. Numerous campsites are possible, usually on the eastern shore and especially in the sheltered waters of Red Canyon and Blue Notch Canyon about mid-bay. Good Hope Bar at the lower end of the bay was the site of extensive gold placer mining.
